It’s really about underdogs and people trying to connect with each other and the world around them, which is a pretty human story. It’s always nice to see that there are people who are more awkward and socially stunted than you—so maybe it just makes people feel better about themselves!

The Big Bang Theory isn’t just hilarious; it also introduced the world to Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), one of the greatest comedy characters ever created. Parsons' comedic performance alone is reason enough to watch the series. He's reminiscent of Urkel in that he's one of those characters who are simultaneously so annoying but so endearing. Meanwhile, The Big Bang Theory as a whole is a refreshing sitcom that mixes real science, social awkwardness, and romance with surprisingly funny results. The character development and friendship also elevate it beyond a typical irreverent comedy.
